From the "Million Dollar Highway" one first sees the high peaks of Colorado's San Juan mountains from afar.
As you get closer towards Ouray the mountains begin to take on different shapes. But from each angle, and there are many, the San Juan mountains continue to impress.

In order to really see these mountains though you need to drive amongst them. If the weather is good and you have a four wheel drive vehicle you can tour the "Alpine Byway" which takes you into the heart of the San Juan's for breathtaking views.
The Alpine Byway passes over two historically important passes. This one, Cinnamon Pass, brings one up over the 12,000 foot mark and affords views into the heart of these mountains.
